The Four Winds and Sealing the 144,000

I saw four angels* standing on the four corners of the earth (land)*, seizing* the four winds of the earth*, so that the wind should not blow on the earth (land), nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

Then, I saw different* angel ascending up from the Eastern sun (rise), holding the seal* (signet, stamp) of the living God. He cried out with a loud voice to the four angels, whom he granted permission to injure the earth and the sea, saying, “Injure not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, until after sealing* the servants of our God on their foreheads.”

I heard the number of those who were stamped and sealed; a hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. (except Dan)

Of the tribe of Judah were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Asher were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.

After this I looked, and, lo, a great multitude of people which no one would be able to number. People of all nations, and kindreds, and races, and tongues standing before the throne, and before the Lamb.* People clothed in white robes with palm branches in their hands. They cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation! from our God who sits upon the throne, and from the Lamb”.

Multitude in white robes raising palm branches before a heavenly throne
A joyful multitude raises palm branches before a radiant heavenly throne surrounded by angels.

All the angels stood circling the throne. Then, the elders and the four beasts fell before the throne in front of God and worshiped saying, “Surely, we will speak your eulogy with adoration and praise and wisdom, and gratitude. We will speak of the price that was paid and the miracles that were done and the mighty strength of our God for ever and ever! Amen.”

One of the elders began speaking, and said to me, “Who are the people clothed in white robes and where did they come from? I answered him, saying “Sir, do you know?” Then, he said to me, “They are those who came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes and made them white in the atoning blood of the Lamb*. Therefore, are they before the throne of God day and night, and serve him in his temple. Likewise, he remains on the throne dwelling among them.

They shall hunger* and thirst no more*. Nor, God-forbid, shall the sunlight fail to shine on them. Nor, shall any scorching, painful heat burn them.  For the Lamb whose in the midst of the throne, tends to them himself as a shepherd and leads them himself to the wells of living waters. Indeed, God wipes away all tears from their eyes”.
