Jesus Christ of Nazareth taught this parable.
John 15:1-8 (reconsidered)
Truly*, I am the vine and my Father is the vine-dresser*.

Every branch in me that bears no fruit, the vine-dresser removes.
And every branch that bears fruit* the vine-dresser cleans, prunes and purges*, so it may bear more fruit.

You have already been cleansed* by the words which I have spoken to you.
Remain close within me and I will remain close within you.
Just as a branch would never be able to bear fruit by itself, unless it remains within the vine, likewise, neither can you bear fruit, unless you remain within me.
I am the vine, you are the branch.

Remain within me and I will remain within you.
This relationship will bear plenteous fruit. Remember, though, separate* from me and you will bear nothing.

If any man continues not within me, put him outside the vineyard like a foreign branch*; to mature or dry up or wither away. Then, after a time, gather the branches up, and cast them into the fire to burn.

Whosoever remains within me, and my words remain within you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done to, with or by you.
In this my Father is glorified*; that you bear much fruit, and likewise, become my disciples*.
