The Sixth Seal

I knew when the Lamb opened the sixth seal* because there was a great earthquake!

The sun became black like sackcloth*, and the moon became like blood*.

The stars* of the sky* fell to the earth, much like a fig tree casting down her own unripe figs*; her branches shaken by a mighty wind.*

And the sky tore apart violently, like a scroll, when it is rolled together.

All the mountains and islands stirred, and moved out of their locations.

Then, the kings of the earth, the leaders, the wealthy, the commanders of armies, the powerful, every servant, and every freeborn human being hid themselves in hiding places (caves or grottos*) and in Petra* mountain (oros).

Then, they spoke, “Oros (mountains)* and Petra (rocks) fall down upon us, and hide us from the presence of the one sitting on the throne*, and from the wrath of the Lamb* because The Great Day* of his wrath has come! Who shall be able to stand up to him?

words below!

Seal

Sphragis-a signet; by implication the stamp impressed (as a mark of privacy, or genuineness) on a book or document or scroll :- a seal. Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.

In the first century, when Revelation was written, a person of authority would seal important documents to keep them secret or to authenticate them. Roman law required a last will and testament to be sealed 7 times, as the wills of Caesar Augustus and Emperor Vespasian were. This scroll with 7 seals, appears to be the last will and testament of Jesus, the Messiah, the Lamb of God.

Sackcloth

Sakkos-of Hebrew origin [<H8242> (saq)]; “sack”-cloth, i.e. mohair (the material or garments made of it, worn as a sign of grief and mourning) :- sackcloth.
Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.

Isaiah 50:3 (KJV) I clothe the heavens with blackness and I make sackcloth their covering.

Daniel 9:3 (KJV)
I set my face to the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:

Jonah 3:5 (KJV)
So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

Jonah 3:8 (KJV)
But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yes, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.

Revelation 11:3 (KJV)
And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

Blood

Haima-of uncertain derivative; blood, literal (of men or animals), figurative (the juice of grapes) or special (the atoning blood of Christ); by implication bloodshed, also kindred :- blood.
Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.

Joel 2:31 (KJV)
The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before The Great (and the terrible) Day of the LORD comes.

Acts 2:20 (KJV)
The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before The Great (and notable) Day of the Lord comes.

Star(s)

Kokab-probably from the same as <H3522> (Kabbown) (in the sense of rolling) or <H3554> (kavah) (in the sense of blazing); a star (as round or as shining); figurative a prince :- star ([-gazer]); also used as a word for angels in the Bible. Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.

Psalm 147:4-5 (KJV)
God weighs out the number of the stars and he calls them all by their names.
Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

Joel 2:10 (KJV)
The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall undulate: the sun and the moon shall be darkened (mourn), and the stars shall take away their brilliancy.

Matthew 24:29 (KJV)
Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.

1 Corinthians 15:41-42 (KJV)
There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:

Revelation 1:20 (KJV)
The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which you saw are the seven churches.

Sky

ouranos-perhaps from the same as <G3735> (oros-mountain) (through the idea of elevation); the sky; by extension heaven (as the abode of God); by implication happiness, power, eternity; specially the Gospel (Christianity) :- air, heaven ([-ly]), sky. Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.

Fig(s)

Isaiah 34:4-5 (reconsidered)
The battle in heaven will melt (vanish), and the heavens will roll up as a scroll. The host (a mass of angelic host organized for war) shall wilt, as a leaf falls off the vine, and as a fig falls from the fig tree.

Matthew 24:32-35 (reconsidered)
Now, learn a parable of the fig tree. When its branch is yet tender, and putting forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So, you yourselves, whenever you see all these things, know that He (Luke 21:31 says Kingdom of God) is near, even at the portal (door). Surely, I say unto you, “This same generation will by no means perish, until all these things come to pass (all these words be fulfilled). Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Song of Songs 2:13 (reconsidered)
The fig tree ripens her green figs, and the grape vines blossom and give off a sweet smell. Rise up, my beautiful companion, and come away with me.

Proverbs 27:18 (reconsidered)
Whosoever keeps the fig tree shall eat the fruit of it; also, he that waits on his master shall be glorified.

Luke 13:6-9 (reconsidered)
Jesus spoke this parable. A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and looked for fruit on it and found none. Then, he said to the gardener of his vineyard, “Look, for three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and have found none. Cut it down! Why is it entirely idle in the ground? The gardener said to him, “Lord, forgive the tree. Leave the tree this year. Then, during this time, I shall dig about it, and fertilize it. And if it bear fruit, good and if not, after that, you can cut it down.

James 3:10-12 (reconsidered)
Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Does a fountain send forth, at the same place, sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

Wind

Genesis 8:1 (KJV)
And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters ceased.

Exodus 10:13 (KJV)
And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.

Numbers 11:31 (KJV)
And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day’s journey on this side, and as it were a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.

2 Kings 3:17 (KJV)
For thus saith the LORD, “You shall not see the wind, neither shall you see the rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that you may drink; both you, and your cattle, and your beasts.

Mark 4:39-41 (KJV)
Jesus arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, “Peace! Be still.” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, “Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?” But, they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, “What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

John 3:8 (KJV)
The wind blows where it desires, and you hear the sound of it, but can not tell where it comes from, or where it goes. Likewise, is it also for all people who are born of the Spirit.

Grotto

Spelaion-neuter of a presumed derivative of speos (a grotto); a cavern; by implication a hiding-place or resort :- cave, den. Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.

Grotto-a small picturesque cave, especially an artificial one in a park or a garden. An indoor structure resembling a cave. Oxford Dictionary (maybe this includes the underground bunker-shelters many wealthy are building?)

Petra means rock in Greek but it is also an ancient city in present day Jordon.

Petra-feminine of the same as <G4074> (Petros); a (mass of) rock (literal or figurative) :- rock.
Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.

Petra (Arabic: ٱلْبَتْراء‎, romanizedAl-Batrāʾ; Ancient Greek: Πέτρα, lit.‘Rock’) is an ancient city and archaeological site in southern Jordan. Famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit systems, Petra is also called the “Rose City” because of the colour of the sandstone from which it is carved.[5] The city is one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.[6]

The area around Petra has been inhabited from as early as 7000 BC,[7] and was settled by the Nabataeans, a nomadic Arab people, in the 4th century BC. Petra would later become the capital city of the Nabataean Kingdom in the second century BC.[7][8] The Nabataeans invested in Petra’s proximity to the incense trade routes by establishing it as a major regional trading hub, which gained them considerable revenue.[7][9] Unlike their enemies, the Nabataeans were accustomed to living in the barren deserts and thus were able to defend their kingdom. They were particularly skillful in agriculture, stone carving, and rainwater harvesting.

Oros

probably from an obsolete oro (to rise or “rear”; perhaps akin to <G142> (airo); compare <G3733> (ornis)); a mountain (as lifting itself above the plain) :- hill, mount (-ain).
Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.

Throne

The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.

1 Kings 2:45 (KJV)
And king Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before the LORD for ever.

Luke 1:27-29 (NLT)
In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored maiden! The Lord is with you!” Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever. His Kingdom will never end!”

Matthew 25:31-34 (KJV)
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory and before him shall be gathered all nations. He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. He shall set the sheep on his right hand and the goats on the left. Then, shall the King say to those on his right hand, “Come, you are blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”

Matthew 19:28-30 (KJV)
Jesus said to them, “Verily I say to you,’ Those of you who have followed me, in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
“And every one that has forsaken houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.” “And many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.”

Acts 7:49-50 (KJV)
Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool.” saith the Lord

Revelation 5:13-14 (KJV)
All creatures who are in heaven, and on the earth (land), and beneath the earth (land), and who are in the sea, so all who are in him, I heard saying, “Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, unto him that sits upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.”

Lamb

John 1:29 (KJV)
The next day, John sees Jesus coming to him, and says, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.”

The Lamb is a metaphor for Jesus, the Messiah. A metaphor is a word or phrase representing something else or symbolic of something else. A Passover lamb was sacrificed every year by the Jews at the Passover Feast. In 70AD, after the temple was destroyed, this practice ceased. However, the Jews still celebrate Passover yearly.

The Great Day

Joel 2:28-32 (KJV) And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth; blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before The Great and the terrible Day of the LORD comes. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD has said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

Malachi 4:5-6 (KJV)
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of The Great (and dreadful) Day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

Acts 2:20 (KJV)
The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before The Great (and notable) Day of the Lord comes.

Jude 1:6 (KJV)
And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of The Great Day.

Revelation 16:13-15
I saw three foul, lewd demon spirits, similar in appearance and character to frogs, come out of the mouth (or language) of the dragon (serpent), and out of the mouth (or language) of the wild beast (therion), and out of the mouth (or language) of the false prophet (religious imposter). For they are the spirits of demons, working wonders, which go forth to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of the Great Day of God Almighty. Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that stays awake, and preserves his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
