Judgement & the Unclean Spirit

Matthew 12:36-45 (reconsidered)

Assuredly, I tell you, “All the idle and useless words human beings utter, will give away their own reasoning and motives at the day of judgment.* Indeed, from your own words (logos) you will be judged innocent, and from your own words (logos) you will be pronounced guilty.”

At that moment, some Scribes* and Pharisees* responded to Jesus’s teaching, saying, “Teacher, we prefer to see a sign of authentication* apart from you (supernatural or ceremonial), to be sure of your teachings.

So, Jesus responded, “What a lazy and adulterous generation of people who demand a sign of authentication! Indeed, no sign of authentication will be granted to you except the miracle of Jonah the prophet.* For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in a whale’s belly, likewise, the Son of man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” *

“The men of Nineveh will rise again at the judgement* amid this generation, and shall condemn this generation, because the men of Nineveh changed their thinking and repented at the preaching of Jonah. Yet, behold, a greater miracle than Jonah is right here, in this place.

“Also, The queen of the South* will awaken in the judgment amid this generation, and she will condemn this generation because she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon*. Yet, behold, a greater wisdom than Solomon’s is right here, in this place.

Nevertheless, whenever an unclean spirit* comes out of a human being, the unclean spirit traverses* in water-less places* seeking rest and relaxation*. Finding none, it will say, “I am turning around and going back to my old household dwelling,* from which I departed.” Then, upon returning, the unclean spirit finds his old household dwelling wholly devoted to leisure; a vacation dwelling; swept, and put in order.

At the same time, the unclean spirit, continues to traverse and associate itself with seven other unclean spirits more evil than himself. Soon, they all enter in and dwell in his old house permanently. Therefore, the final state of the human being becomes more evil and aggravated* than ever before.

Likewise, it will be the same, for this wicked generation.

Judgement

A tribunal of Divine Law.

Tribunal=a court or forum of justice.

Divine=coming from God.

Law=the body of rules and principles governing the affairs of a community and enforced by an authority (political or divine); a legal system.

The Judgement will be a court trial. Satan will be the prosecutor and you will be the defendant. Your defense counsel will be Jesus (if he is your savior). The Father will be the judge and render the verdict except that, he has deferred final judgement to Jesus. Your words and deeds will be used as evidence. The blood of Jesus, calling for justice, will determine your ultimate fate.

Genesis 4:10 (KJV)
10  And God said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.”

Hebrews 12:24 (KJV)
……..And to Jesus, the mediator of the new covenant and the blood of sprinkling, speaking stronger words from beside Abel.

Scribes and Pharisees

A scribe is a person who serves as a professional copyist, especially one who made copies of manuscripts (Torah) before the invention of automatic printing. (Wikipedia)

The Pharisees were a Jewish social movement and a school of thought during the time of Second Temple Judaism. Following the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 AD, Pharisaic beliefs became the foundational, liturgical, and ritualistic basis for Rabbinic Judaism. Although the group does not exist anymore, their traditions are considered important among all various Jewish religious movements. (Wikipedia)

Authentication

Greek Strong’s Number: 459 Greek Word: σημεῖον Transliteration: sēmeion

Thayer’s Greek Lexicon: a sign, mark or token by which a person is distinguished from others. Miracles and wonders by which God authenticates the man sent by him or by which a man proves that the cause he is pleading is God’s.

I believe the word authentication (of his being Messiah) best describes what the Scribes and Pharisee’s were seeking. Jesus had already performed wonders and miracles never seen before in Israel. So, perhaps the authentication they were seeking was ceremonial; from Torah, statues and ordinances established by law and customs and used in religious worship, social intercourse and the courts. (google) If they were seeking authentication through Torah of his being the Messiah, Jesus’s words in John 10:31-38 reveal an even deeper level of understanding of the conflict between Jesus and the Jewish leaders.

Miracle of Jonah the Prophet

Jonah 1:1-17 (KJV)
1  Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,
2  “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.”
3  But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.
4  But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.
5  Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.
6  So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, “What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.”
7  And they said every one to his fellow, “Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us”. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.
8  Then said they unto him, “Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?”
9  And he said unto them, ” I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.”
10  Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, “Why hast thou done this?” For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.
11  Then said they unto him, “What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us?” for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.
12  And he said unto them,” Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.”
13  Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.
14  Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, “We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man’s life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.”
15  So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.
16  Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.
17  Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Jonah 2:1-10 (KJV)
1  Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly,
2  And said, “I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.  For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.”
4  Then I said, “I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.  The waters compassed me about, even to the soul. The depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.  I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.”
7 “When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving. I will pay that, that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.”
10  And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

Jonah 3:1-10 (KJV)
1  And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
2  “Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.”
3  So, Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.
4 Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.”
5  So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
6  For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7  And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, “Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water. But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.  Who can tell if God will turn and reconsider, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?”
10  And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God reconsidered the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

Jonah, a jew, did not want to preach salvation to the heathen gentiles. So he fled from God and ended up 3 days and nights, and eventually dead, inside a whale at the bottom of the ocean. Jonah repented before his last breath and God resurrected him to preach to the heathen, gentile city of Ninevah. The Ninevites believed Jonah’s message, repented also and turned from their heathen ways. God, in turn, responded to the Ninevites repentance and did not destroy them, as was planned.

We can see two signs of authentication in this story. The first is the death and resurrection of Jesus plus the 3 days and 3 nights parallel with Jonah’s experience in the whale. The second is the preaching of salvation to the Gentiles and having them believe the message and turn away from their heathen culture and practices and turn toward the God of Moses. Gentiles in mass heard Jesus’s messages and have turned away from heathenism to follow him.

In the heart of the Earth

Greek Strong’s Number: 12 Greek Word: ἄβυσσος Transliteration: abyssos

The Greek word “abussos” is found only a handful of times in the New Testament. (Luke 8:31, Rom. 10:7, Rev. 9:1, 2,11; 11:7, 17:8, 20:1, 3) and it means things like “bottomless pit, abyss, depth of the earth, heart of the earth, pit, underworld”. Rom. 10:7 uses the word for “the realm of the dead”. Revelation, as well as Luke 8:31, uses it to denote “the prison of demons”. We know this place is “closed but the smoke of the subterranean fires rise from it”. It is ruled by a prince, not Satan. (Rev 9:11) Weird creatures emerge from it as does the Beast. (Rev 9:3) (www.bumchecks.com)

Proverbs 25:2-3 (reconsidered)
The splendor of God is to hide the words about a thing. The glory of kings is to examine intimately and understand the words about a thing. The elevation of the heavens, and the depth (heart) of the earth, and the heart (feelings, will and intellect) of a king is unsearchable.

Queen of the South

1 Kings 10:1-13 (KJV)
1 When the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to test him with hard questions.
2  She came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones. When she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.
3  And Solomon told her all her questions: there was not any thing hid from the king, which he told her not.
4  And when the queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon’s wisdom, and the house that he had built, and the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her.
6 She said to the king,” It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thy acts and of thy wisdom. However, I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceeds the fame which I heard.
“Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom.”
9  “Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel: because the LORD loved Israel for ever, therefore made he the king, to do judgment and justice.”
10  So, she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones. There came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.
11  And the navy also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of almond trees, and precious stones.
12  And the king made of the almond trees pillars for the house of the LORD, and for the king’s house, harps also and psalteries for singers: there came no such almond trees, nor were seen unto this day.
13  And king Solomon gave unto the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she asked, beside that which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants.

The wisdom of Solomon

2 Chronicles 9:22-23 (KJV)
King Solomon passed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom. And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, wisdom that God had put in his heart.

Unclean spirit

Unclean: Greek Strong’s Number: 169 Greek Word: ἀκάθαρτος Transliteration: akathartos
impure (ceremonial, moral [lewd] or special [demonic]) :- foul, unclean, defiled, profane. In a ceremonial sense: that which must be abstained from according to the Levitical law. In a moral sense: unclean in thought and life.

Spirit: Greek Strong’s Number: 4151 Greek Word: πνεῦμα Transliteration: pneuma

Water-less place

Waterless: Greek Strong’s Number: 504 Greek Word: ἄνυδρος Transliteration: anydros
waterless, i.e. dry :- dry, without water.

Place: Greek Strong’s Number: 5117 Greek Word: τόπος Transliteration: topos
a spot (genitive in space, but limited by occupancy), i.e. location (as a position, home, tract, etc.) figurative: condition.

So, what is the water-less place or space that the Bible is referring to? Let’s do a search of water-less places/spaces beginning with the known universe.

Extraterrestrial liquid water is water in its liquid state that naturally occurs on celestial bodies besides Earth. It is a subject of wide interest because it is recognized as one of the key prerequisites for life as we know it and is thus surmised to be essential.

Although many celestial bodies in the Solar System have a hydrosphere, Earth is the only celestial body known to have stable bodies of liquid water on its surface, with oceanic water covering 71% of its surface, which is essential to life on Earth. The presence of liquid water is maintained by Earth’s atmospheric pressure and stable orbit in the Sun‘s circumstellar habitable zone, however, the origin of Earth’s water remains uncertain.

With no known liquid water in space, are there any continents or countries on Earth without lakes and rivers?

When it comes to continents, Antarctica stands out as having no rivers, but it does have lakes. As the southernmost continent and home to the South Pole, Antarctica is an ice-covered landmass with temperatures reaching -57 degrees Celsius. The extreme cold leads to the formation of ice, making it devoid of continuous running water areas but lakes have formed containing glaciers and ice sheets. A very small amount of melted water makes it’s way to the ocean from Antarctica each year.

Saudi Arabia is indeed the largest country in the world without a lake or river. With its massive land area and arid climate, it stands alone in this regard. However, it’s important to note that Vatican City also doesn’t have rivers or lakes, but due to its small size, it doesn’t hold the same significance as Saudi Arabia. A few islands also do not have rivers or lakes.

Many people believe unclean spirits reside or travel around in the “air or atmosphere, but according to Matthew, that doesn’t seem to be the case. The air or atmosphere contains water. “The atmosphere is the superhighway in the sky that moves water everywhere over the Earth. Water at the Earth’s surface evaporates into water vapor, then rises up into the sky to become part of a cloud which will float off with the winds, eventually releasing water back to Earth as precipitation.” (USGS)

Water is necessary for physical life but maybe not spiritual life. So, whether the word “anydros topos” is identifying a place in the universe, on Earth, in space or a place in the spiritual realm, we know it is devoid of water, and therefore, life as we know it.
